I just read recently that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt gave a huge amount of money to Iraqi children who have lost parents and loved ones during the war and I
LOVE what she and Brad do for philanthropy and the millions of children in third world countries who have nothing. But the US has a mind boggleing amount of
children who are homeless, abused, poor, uneducated etc and it's disgusting to see the statistics climbing every year considering we are the
"powerful" rich country. It would be nice to see celebs bring attention to problems in our own backyard along with problems around the world. If we
bring attention to our own problems and fix them, maybe other countries will take notice and take action. I am in no way putting down what Miss Jolie does, it
shows she has a huge heart but we need to do something about our own poor population also, because they are getting ignored and the poor population is growing.
I think I feel this way because I'm a Sociology major and I've seen the statistics and study them constantly within my major so it kind of bothers me
how our own poor population is being passed up by celebrities AND our own government. I hope I'm not sounding like a heartless b*tch because that is
totally not my intentions. I just always find it intersting that some celebs give millions of dollars away each year to 3rd world countries and are ignorant to
what's happening in their own back yard.

I think the story you were reading is a little biased and didn't reveal the entire truth. Brad and Angelina donated $500,000 to the charities to benefit
Iraqi children. They ALSO donated $500,000 to a charity that benefits children in the US who have lost a parent in Iraq or who are separated from their parents
because they are stationed in Iraq. Angelina did a lot to raise awareness about the number of children that were separated from their homes after Hurricane
Katrina and Brad donated millions of dollars to a charity that helped rebuild homes in the areas affected by Katrina.

Thanks for the link chicki that was a 100% better read. Let me just reiterte that Angelina and Brad's charity work is amazign and I know Brad just recently
formed a charity for New Orleans. Anyways, I think my blame needs to go to our federal government because they shed no light on our poor population. I think
along with the GAP RED campaign, Live Aid, Save Drafur etc, we should also have some major charities directed towards our poor population. I was pretty upset
when I originally wrote this topic because I'm sick of reading the news paper everyday and seeing how much our government just does not care.

I don't understand the fascination with Angelina Jolie. This women gets far too much press coverage

To be fair, I don't think these actors are just looking for some "3rd World country" to donate to. The key phrase is probably "to Iraqi
children who have lost parents and loved ones during the war".
Whatever we think of Saddam Hussein's former regime, the fact is that most of the present devastation, most of the recent deaths and most of the collapse of social services have stemmed from the War, the resistance to the occupation and the political chaos that has resulted. These actors may therefore feel some ethical imperative to try to help with the reconstruction. |

I don't understand the fascination with Angelina Jolie. This women gets far too much press coverageShe does, but at least she's using it to raise awarness about the plight of the world's poorest people. That's alot more that can be said for Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan. |

Is she the first woman to ever give birth to twins? I just hate how real news has dumbed itself down to try to keep up with the tabloids.

Oh, I completely argee with you on that. It really isn't her fault as much as it is the media's desire to get ratings. Sadly our society is more
obsessed with celebs than the real problems that plague the world. People also forget the news is just as much a money making venture as any other business in
America and if trashy gossip about celebs gets ratings then that's what they'll air.
